General Information

Storybook Farm’s Spring 2019 Session begins Monday, February 4 and ends Tuesday, April 16.

SBF Specifics:

  • Volunteer Orientation and Onboarding is a two-week experience. You will attend this training ONLY on the same day of the week you are scheduled to volunteer.
  • Volunteers are required to commit to at least one day a week for the entire 9-week session.
  • Kids participate once a week. So for example if you are volunteering on Mondays, you will be assisting the same groups of Monday kids for the entire session.
  • For all you smart Auburn University students, don’t worry about Spring Break. The horses are planning a beach trip so there will be no sessions the week of March 11.
Weekly Riding Sessions:
Mondays: 1:30 – 6:00 pm
Tuesdays: 9:30 – 10:30, 1:30 – 6:00
Wednesdays: 1:30 – 6:00 pm
Thursdays: 1:30 – 6:00 pm
Fridays: 1:30 – 6:00 pm

Storybook Settings: Discover your spot!

  • Paddington Station Arena – Assist kids as they experience the exhilaration of riding Storybook’s horses and ponies.
  • The Secret Garden – Explore and dig in the dirt while leading lesson plans (provided for you) about horticulture and nutrition.
  • The Fox and the Hound Playground – Get ready for sloppy kisses and hugs from Storybook’s lovable canines while engaging in agility exercises, brushing, walking and even reading.
  • Behind the camera – Love photography? Awesome! You’ll find yourself with the cutest subject – kids plus animals.
  • Prancing Pony Pavilion – Artsy? Get the glue, pipe cleaners and designs ready for arts & crafts with the riders and their siblings.

Session Volunteer Positions

Please note which volunteer position is your preferred option. Note that there is limited space available and the spots fill up quickly!

Riding Activities: Accompany our riders in Paddington Station Arena as they experience the fulfillment of horseback riding.

Horticultural Education: Cultivate smiles with our riders in The Secret Garden as they learn about nutrition, gardening, and tending the soul.

Small Animal Companionship: Furry friends and small children go together like peas and carrots.

Photography, Arts & Crafts: Enjoy building close relationships with our participants through beautifully hand-made designs.

All training sessions are held at Storybook Farm from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

Orientation sessions are mandatory for all new Storybook volunteers.

You attend only on the day/time you have chosen to volunteer. If you plan to volunteer multiple days, you only need to attend one of your chosen days.
